Plants are all around us, in woods and fields, parks and gardens and even in our homes. Many plants may simply be admired for their beauty but others we depend on for our food.

Perhaps you have tried growing plants, sowing seed in the ground and waiting patiently for the first green shoots to appear? How wonderful it is that something so small and shrivelled could produce a living plant! Soon the stem grows, the leaves open and then the flowers form.

God made the plants on the third day of creation:

“And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.” (Genesis 1:11-12)

The plants mentioned in the Bible can teach us some great truths about Christ and His church.
