Q.12. What special act of providence did God exercise toward man in the estate wherein he was created?

A. When God had created man, he entered into a covenant of life with him, upon condition of perfect obedience; forbidding him to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, upon the pain of death.[z]

[z] Gal. 3:12. Gen. 2:17.

We are here taught,

1. That God entered into a covenant with Adam.

2. That it was a covenant of life.

3. That the condition of this covenant was perfect obedience.

4. That man was forbidden to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

5. That the penalty of this covenant was death.
