Our Beliefs
Q.20. Did God leave all mankind to perish in the estate of sin and misery?
A. God having, out of his mere good pleasure, from all eternity, elected some to everlasting life,[k] did enter into a covenant of grace, to deliver them out of the estate of sin and misery, and to bring them into an estate of salvation by a Redeemer.[l]
[k] Eph. 1:4.
[l] Rom. 3:20-22. Gal. 3:21,22.
We are here taught,
1. That God hath ordained or elected some men to everlasting life.
2. That God’s purpose of election was from eternity.
3. That the election of God is the result of his own good pleasure.
4. That God entered into a covenant of grace with Christ for the elect.
5. That the design of this covenant was to deliver the elect from their original state of sin and misery, and to bring them into a state of complete salvation by a Redeemer.
