Q.21. Who is the Redeemer of God’s elect?

A. The only Redeemer of God’s elect is the Lord Jesus Christ,[m] who, being the eternal Son of God, became man,[n] and so was, and continueth to be, God and man in two distinct natures, and one person, for ever.[o]

We are here taught,

1. That the Lord Jesus Christ is the Redeemer of God’s elect.

2. That Jesus Christ is the only Redeemer of man.

3. That Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God.

4. That Jesus Christ became man.

5. That Jesus Christ is both God and man.

6. That Jesus Christ possesses the natures of God and man in one person.

7. That Jesus Christ will continue to be both God and man for ever.



Q.22. How did Christ, being the Son of God, become man?

A. Christ, the Son of God, became man, by taking to himself a true body,[p] and a reasonable soul,[q] being conceived by the power of the Holy Ghost, in the womb of the Virgin Mary, and born of her,[r] yet without sin.[s]

4. That Christ was born, and continued to be, without sin.
