Q.67. Which is the sixth commandment?
A. The sixth commandment is, Thou shalt not kill.[b]

Q.68. What is required in the sixth commandment?
A. The sixth commandment requireth all lawful endeavours to preserve our own life,[c] and the life of others.[d]

We are here taught,
1. That we must use all lawful endeavours to preserve our own lives.
2. That we are to use no unlawful endeavours for the preservation of our own lives.
3. That we must use all lawful endeavours to preserve the lives of others.
4. That we are to use no unlawful endeavours to preserve the lives of others.
Q.69. What is forbidden in the sixth commandment?
A. The sixth commandment forbiddeth the taking away of our own life, or the life of our neighbour unjustly, or whatsoever tendeth thereunto.[e]

We are here taught,
1. That we are forbidden to destroy our own lives.
2. That we are to avoid every thing which would tend to take away our own lives.
3. That we are forbidden to take away the life of another person unjustly.
4. That we are to avoid every thing which would tend to take away the life of another.
